Field Note: A Latency Budget Is a Design Constraint
A short observation on why latency budgets make distributed design conversations more concrete.

Teams often debate performance in vague terms: fast, slow, acceptable, too slow. A latency budget changes the conversation.
If a request must complete in 300 milliseconds, every network hop, database call, cache miss, retry, and serialization step has to spend from the same account. The budget turns preference into constraint.
The useful shift is social as much as technical. People stop arguing about whether one dependency is "probably fine" and start asking what the whole path can afford.
